Bookend goals in the first and last minutes of the Thunder's away match against the Minnesota Twin Stars on Saturday, June 25th marked their second win of the season, and the first on the road.
The Thunder shocked the Twin Stars with their set piece superiority in the first minute of the match. James Bolger soldiered his way to a corner kick from Brennan Haggerty, making it 1-0 mere seconds after kickoff. A rapid counterattack in the 16th minute for the TwinStars made the game 1-1. Despite chances on both sides, including dangerous free kicks for both teams, the game stayed level heading into the half.
These free kick chances would prove to be the critical game-changer. A red card for Minnesota set up Sioux Falls outside the 18. With the clock ticking down, Tyler Limmer stepped up to take it. A curled shot around the wall fooled the keeper, bouncing off the far post and trailing over the line for the win.
The Thunder continue their four-match away series next in Wisconsin against La Crosse Aris FC on Wednesday, June 29th.
