A 2-1 lead wasn't enough for the Thunder (2-7-3) in their away game against Duluth FC (9-3-0) on Friday. The game changed hands twice before settling with the Bluegreens in a 2-5 loss.
The Thunder started both Brennan Haggerty and Tyler Limmer for the first time in 6 games, but due to a string of conflicts and injuries, only 14 players traveled from Sioux Falls. Despite this, the first half was evenly matched.
Duluth opened the scoring with a headed ball in the 16th minute thanks to service from Duluth player Caleb Tammi. The Thunder retaliated just two minutes later thanks to a Limmer-Stevenson Storm connection. Storm would put the Thunder ahead in the 30th minute thanks to fancy footwork in the box. An opening let him put the ball away from inside the box, giving the Thunder their first lead of the game.
That lead would only last another 10 minutes as another header from Duluth equalized for the Bluegreens. The two teams went into the half as even as they started.
The lack of available depth for the Thunder reared its head in the second half. Duluth would take the lead and then some, with three goals pouring in for the home team. The 5th goal came in the 75th minute, and the final score would remain 2-5 until the whistle.
Thank you to all for the support we've received this season. We've got one of the best crowds in the NPSL! And a special thank you goes out to our sponsors and volunteers. We'll appreciate them more in-depth in the coming weeks.
